I survived tax season, what’s next???

My first tax season as a sole-proprietor came to an end last week. It was a different tax season than what I had been accustomed to in the past. I pretty much adapted on the fly and even went out of my comfort zone by using a new piece of software to prepare tax returns. I ran into a few hiccups with the software, but I managed to figure things out. I also realized that my home printer was not meant for printing tax returns as I used quite a lot of ink. Basically, you live and you learn. Next year, I will make necessary changes to keep improving.

Over the next couple months, I will be focusing more attention on my business plan and processes. I originally drew up a budget before I started my practice, but I really didn’t create a true business plan. I guess I had it all in my head. The key will be to always keep evolving and not remain static. Therefore, at least once a year I should revisit the plan and see if I am executing it.

As well, I will be speaking at my first conference “Momentum”. I am very excited to be discussing the topics of cloud accounting and cash flow management on June 14th at the WFCU Centre. I will be writing a future blog post on “Why I decided to speak at Momentum”.
