Working on vacation? Not a problem!!!

This past week I travelled to my parent’s cottage in Turkey Point for a much-needed vacation.  I had every intention of taking a break from work, however things changed the first morning. I received a phone call from a new, potential client who had an urgent situation and needed a very quick turnaround time.  Fortunately, I had brought my laptop with me just in case so I had them send me their information so I could take a look.

After evaluating the information that was provided, I decided to take on the job. The one issue that I knew I would have to overcome was a lack of WiFi at the cottage. I first thought that I could drive to a Tim Hortons in Simcoe which is 20 minutes away to use their free WiFi but later, I was communicating with my social media manager via messenger and he suggested turning my cell phone into a hotspot. I totally forgot I could do this and it was a huge timesaver.

My game plan was to work on the project during my youngest daughter’s nap time and then again in the evening if needed. My parents were very supportive and were willing to help keep my other daughter occupied so that I could get my work done.

This was quite a different approach for me as I typically like to have a face-to-face meeting before accepting an engagement. However, I was able to meet their deadline working remotely and was able enjoy the rest of my vacation knowing that I was able to really help someone in a pinch.
