In order to serve our current and future clients better I have decided to leave my controller position of almost three years and operate Oldridge Accounting on a full-time basis.
The pandemic has been a real eye opener and since March, I have been working remotely for the most part. I ended up staying home with the kids and did my controller and practice duties at the same time.
My oldest was in grade 2 while my youngest was in preschool. It was quite a balancing act between helping with homework, preparing lunches, keeping my four-year-old occupied and taking care of accounting for AutoMAXX and working with my clients.
Around Father’s Day this year I was at a point where I had to start considering, carefully, if I should be taking on more clients as I was getting close to capacity. I lost the opportunity with a couple potential clients due to time constraints created by the pandemic and they could have been good clients. I also felt like at times I have not stopped being busy since January, which is a good thing provided I take time for myself here and there.
Going full-time is going to help the practice and my family in many ways! First, it allows me to serve my clients even better and allows me to take on more clients that I want to work with to help with their accounting and tax needs.
Second, it frees up time for me to be more flexible. I no longer need to work in the evenings or on weekends to maintain the practice. However, if a client still wants an evening or weekend meeting I will definitely accommodate.
Third, with me working out of my home office I will be able to stay home with the kids if they happen to get sick and cannot attend school.
I want to thank my family and all of my clients for being so supportive and patient with me over the last couple of years in this journey. I cannot wait to see what the future will bring us all.
