Reflecting on a Successful Tax Season

I finally have a chance to stop and catch my breath after a busy but successful tax season.

December 31st corporate year ends are due on June 30th which makes things very hectic as there are a lot of businesses that prefer a calendar year end.

Again 2021 was not a normal tax season as I have been accustomed to in my 21 years of tax seasons. This time I was more prepared after the 2020 season being at the beginning of the pandemic.

I already had DocuSign and a client portal in place, and I absolutely love both of these tools. I have also implemented Stripe for payment processing towards the end of June. This will make it easier for clients wanting to pay via credit card and less chasing of payments as my Xero invoices will now have a “Pay Now” button moving forward.

This was my practice’s first year operating full-time during the busy season and I was very overwhelmed by the support from my amazing clients. Referrals from clients and other professionals have been fantastic.

This year brought reconnections with individuals that I had not seen in years and brought additional projects from current clients. The kids being home with virtual schooling during the second half made things challenging at times, but it was manageable.

There were a few different COVID related changes this year with respect to reporting, however I was prepared for them. I even made sure that I had a good handle on my filings in order to get my first COVID vaccine two days before the personal tax deadline.

I cannot wait to see what future tax seasons bring!
