It has been a year now since the launch of my business. My accounting practice is part-time as I am the controller for Automaxx Pre-Owned Super Center. Therefore, most of my time spent on projects occurs in the evening when the kids are in bed or on the weekends. I do take the occasional lunch meeting to visit clients. That being said I am very happy with how things have progressed over the year and here are a few of my highlights that I am very proud of accomplishing.
I stepped out of my comfort zone to take on a speaking engagement at the Momentum conference for small business owners and entrepreneurs. I spoke about my passion of cloud accounting and how it can be used to help with a business’s cash flow management. I am not the type of person that likes speaking in front of crowds so this was a big accomplishment for me.
I have now gained a real focus for my practice. Since I am a part-time practice I decided that I need to really concentrate on the type of work that I can prepare efficiently for clients. I now primarily focus on cloud bookkeeping along with related tax filings. My practice will still prepare year ends for clients requiring a corporate tax return but I will be selective with whom I accept as a client.
This focus has allowed me to obtain my Xero Bronze Partner status which I am very proud of. By only specializing in one accounting software to prepare the books for my clients it has made my life easier. I admit, I was trying to stay abreast on many accounting platforms at the same time and it was way too hard to keep up. I cannot wait to see what the second year brings.
